The Illinois Water Environment Association has opportunities for undergraduate and graduates students interested in water environment careers. Click on the links below to learn more.
Clean Water Scholarship
The IWEA Clean Water Scholarship is designed to aid students preparing for careers working with the water environment. IWEA will award as many as two scholarships of up to $1,000.00. Scholarships will be applied to the next acadmic year. Recipients will be announced at the Illinois Wastewater Professionals Conference, traditionally held in April.
InFLOW Scholarships
InFlow provides scholarships that cover the costs for students to attend IWPC. This program is focused on promoting diversity and inclusion within the water sector. The primary goal is to engage participants in events and networking opportunities to solidify their interest in working in the water industry as well as increase opportunities for employment and long-term success.
Sylvanus Jackson Scholarship
This Scholarship is available to students attending the Environmental Resources Training Center, ERTC, at Southern Illinois University. It is administered through the SIU Foundation.
Intelligent Water Systems Design Challenge
The IWS Challenge is to encourage college students (both undergraduate and graduate student) to develop solutions for real-world environmental problems with the use of advanced data analytics, Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML).
Student Design Competition
The Student Design Competition provides students the opportunity to respond to a chosen design problem or allow student teams to bring problems they are currently working on. Competition winners may go on to compete at WEFTEC.
Student Poster Competition
The poster competition allows students an opportunity to present posters on on their research or other topics of interest to water environment professionals. Both undergraduate and graduate students are encouraged to participate.

WEF Student and Young Professionals Committee
WEF’s programs, resources and networking opportunities give students and young professionals the keys to launch a successful career in the water and wastewater field by promoting involvement within WEF and the Member Associations and providing professional development and leadership opportunities.
