The Award Winners for 2006 are...
Herb Anderson was the recipient of the Bedell Award.
This award is acknowledging extraordinary personal service to the Member
Association. Mr. Anderson served on the IWEA Board for more than 16
years as an Assistant Secretary-Treasurer, Secretary-Treasurer and Secretary.
His terms were from 1989 to 2005.
William Lazouskas was the recipient of the Laboratory Excellence Award.
This award is presented to an individual for outstanding performance,
professionalism, and contributions to the water quality analysis profession.
Mr. Lazouskas is a Sanitary Chemist IV (Lab Manager) at the Metropolitan
Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago (MWRDGC). He has been
employed at MWRDGC since 1974.
George R. Schillinger was the recipient of the Hatfield Award. This
award is presented to operators of wastewater treatment plants for outstanding
performance and professionalism. Mr. Schillinger has thirty-five years
experience as a manager of large, complex wastewater treatment plants.
He is presently the Executive Director of the American Bottoms Regional
Wastewater Treatment Facility.
Shirley Burger and Daniel McCarthy were inducted into the WEF Quarter
Century Operator's Club. This club is a group of members who have been
actively involved as full-time participant in the water environment
industry for more than 25 years or more.
OMI Inc. - Carol Stream Water Reclamation Center was the recipient of
the Burke Safety Award. This award acknowledges an outstanding safety
program at a wastewater treatment facility.
Toby Duckett was the recipient of the WEF Service Award. This award
was given in recognition of Toby's dedicated service as a WEF Director,
which he served from 2002-2005.
Charles Corley is the recipient of the IWEA Kenneth Merideth Award.
This award is to an individual for outstanding contributions to wastewater
treatment plant operator professionalism. Mr. Corley is the Regional
Manager of Illinois EPA's Bureau of Water, Water Pollution Control Division,
Rockford office.
Daria Zelasko was the recipient of the IWEA Best Technical Presentation
Award for her presentation at the 2005 Annual Conference in Rockford:
"Benevolent Bacteria: Indigenous Bacteria Remediation."
Greg Brunst was the recipient of the IWEA Paul Clinebell Outstanding
Service Award. This award is to recognize an IWEA individual who has
provided and continues to provide significant contributions to the Illinois
Water Environment Association. Since becoming an IWEA member in 1980,
Mr. Brunst has served on several IWEA committees (more than 10), was
IWEA President in 1997, WEF director 1999-2004 and has been the "Inflow
Regulator pH 7" since 1993.
Brandon Potthaust was the recipient of the Sylvanus Jackson Scholarship
Award.
These awards were presented at the 2006 IWEA Annual Conference in Springfield.
