Whuzzup?

I’ll pose a question used by many fans of certain beer commercials but well meant here to introduce my brief report of the current condition of IWEA. So, as it relates to IWEA, this is Whuzzup.

Last time you heard from me the Executive Committee was about to meet and consider long-range planning. We did and we have. A session was held in Chicago on May 17th. Most issues had received airtime at other sessions but with little conclusion drawn. Some deciding was done at this meeting, by contrast.

For the foreseeable future, the Annual Conference will be held in Rockford at the Clock Tower Inn and Resort. The exception to this will be the 2006 conference, which will be held “further downstate” when a suitable location is found. Suitability includes access to most members, sufficient exhibit space and potential to attract members who might not be regular participants. Want to be a part of the site selection? Let me know, cause we have a job for you. The website will remain free of advertising and unrelated links that have no direct bearing on IWEA. If you have not visited our new and improved www.IWEASite.org, do so soon. A new link, however, will be added: The WEF Job Bank. This Job Bank is a WEF Member’s only area. You will login using your 7- digit WEF Member ID number. Your ID number can also be found on the address label of most mail sent by WEF. This jobs bank site has benefit to and applicability for IWEA and its members.

Membership is an ongoing concern. Increasing as well as holding our own are equally at issue. The Member Recruitment Committee has been asked to look at the idea of membership in the IWEA without a joint membership in WEF. Some MA’s already have a similar system and we should at least take a look at it. Coincidental with this is the pursuit of at least one student chapter in the next year with an eye towards more in succeeding years.

An information and registration brochure is in development spurred on by First Vice President Drake. It is hoped that thousands of these will be printed and available for you to spread our message and to distribute at every event we participate in for information and recruitment.

Some well-mannered discussions of possible solutions for the Central States WEA and Illinois WEA franchise were held and will, no doubt, continue.

Your input is as important to the IWEA and these decisions as the Executive Committee’s. Contact any officer or me to make your voice heard.
