Descriptions and Duties
Annual Conference: Chaired
by First Vice President each year and responsible for coordinating
all conference activities including program, local arrangements,
marketing, and conference site activities.
Audit: Organized yearly to determine
the financial needs and schedule of Illinois Water Environment
Association (IWEA). Conduct a yearly audit of the IWEA financial
records and oversee a professional audit every three years.
Awards: Solicit, evaluate and recommend
nominations for various WEF and IWEA awards for Executive
Board approval. Prepares necessary documents for submittal
of national awards.
Biosolids: Reviews the issues of residuals
management. Recommends and assists in implementing appropriate
programs for the Member Association, including topics for
plant operations seminars.
Collection Facilities: Highlights collection
system problems and subsequent solutions in order to support/educate
the IWEA membership. Organizes specialty seminar on collection
systems. Supports certification programs for operators of
collections systems.
Constitution and Bylaws: Retired for 2007 – 2008.
Electrical Power, Energy, and Controls: Develops,
educates, and provides general understanding for the electrical
issues related to the mission of IWEA and WEF. This committee's
work focuses on three technical areas: electrical power systems;
electrical energy cost and efficiency; and control systems.
Governmental Affairs: Organizes annual
Government Affairs Seminar, including procurement of speakers,
advertisement, and site setup. Provides regulatory updates
for IWEA membership.
History: Responsible for collecting
publications, articles, photographs and other memorabilia
of the Association, including committees, programs and leaders.
Organizes, catalogs, and archives materials, and enhances
the reputation of the Association through materials memorializing
the Association.
Industrial Pretreatment: Educates businesses,
communities, and IWEA members on pretreatment issues. Organizes
Industrial Wastes seminar.
Laboratory: Provides updates on laboratory
procedures to IWEA members and industry technicians. Organizes
lab skills training sessions and seminars. Responsible for
nomination for WEF (Lab Analyst) award.
Local Arrangements: Responsible for
organizing and promoting IWEA Annual Conference, including
special events, conference site coordination activities,
and entertainment during conference and banquet.
Lower Illinois: Responsible
for establishing and coordinating activities for members
from Lower (Central and Southern) Illinois that would mirror
many of the current IWEA activities that take place in Northern
Illinois. These activities would be structured to fit
the needs of our members and potential members from this
area as well as make it easier to participate in those activities.
Marketing: Develops and implements
methods of promoting and advertising IWEA and its activities
and events. Collects statistics on Annual Conference to support
conference planning and management. Prepares surveys and
analyzes information obtained.
Membership: Responsible for developing
and coordinating programs and activities aimed at recruiting,
welcoming, and retaining IWEA members, including the determination
of their needs. Develops an IWEA membership directory.
Newsletter: Solicits and facilitates
the submittal of summaries for all IWEA events and its members’
activities. Responsible for the printing of IWEA’s newsletter, Illinois
Clarifier.
Nominating: Chaired by Past President
each year and responsible for soliciting nominations and
recommending candidates for elected IWEA Executive Board
positions.
Plant Operations: Organizes activities
that enhance wastewater operators’ skills and knowledge.
Provides special
"operator" activities for annual conference. Organizes representative
plant tours open to all industry professionals. Organizes specialty seminars
on plant operations.
Program: Develops the technical program
for the annual conference, including solicitation of abstracts,
selection of abstracts for program, and development of technical
program. May nominate speakers for Best Paper Award.
Public Education & Student Affairs: Promotes
public awareness of the IWEA and its membership’s activities.
Educates the general public about the importance of clean
water and preserving our water environment. Provides support
for the IWEA through a Speaker’s Bureau, participation in
Career Fairs, and sponsoring the Clean Water Awards and Stockholm
Junior Water Prize for students.
Safety: Provides educational support,
expert speakers, and seminars for IWEA and its membership
relative to safety and safe operations. Assists in selecting
safety award winners.
Student Chapters: Promotes the establishment
of student chapters in State Universities to encourage graduate
and undergraduate student interest in the engineering and
science of the water environment. Promotes academic excellence
and leadership in environmental science and engineering.
Provides an avenue for the exchange of information and ideas
through networking and mentorship between students, faculty,
and members of the IWEA and the Water Environment Federation.
Ten-Day Water Environment Curriculum: Supports
and enhances the IWEA’s national award-wining water environment
educational program for Grades 5-10. Includes an extensive
curriculum, guest lectures,
"teach the teacher" concept, and facilitating fund raising.
Watershed Management: Develops, recommends
and conducts programs to promote general understanding of
non-point sources issues, including those related to storm
water and watershed management.
Website: Provides accurate and timely
information regarding the IWEA and its activities to members
and the general public via the website www.iweasite.org.
WEF Local Arrangements: Provides local
support for WEF staff, including welcoming activities, identification
of local events, technical tour programs, technical sessions
and information booth at the Water Environment Federation’s
Annual Conference, to be held in Chicago in 2008.
Young Professionals: Encourages young
professionals to join our Association and take leadership
roles with the overarching objective to make the Association
more vibrant and dynamic.
