Committee Mission:
IWEA's Watershed Management Committee focuses on recommending,
developing, and conducting activities to broaden the understanding of
watershed management and preserving and enhancing the Illinois water
environment.
The Committee organizes workshops for IWEA members, regulatory
agencies, and local watershed organizations to collaborate on current
water quality challenges and share ideas and information. The Committee
also produces regular "From the Shed" articles for the
quarterly IWEA Clarifier newsletter, and hosts a web-based clearinghouse
for connecting Illinois watershed groups with each other. The IWEA
Watershed Management Committee serves as a bridge to the Water
Environment Federation (WEF)'s Watershed Management Committee.
Committee Activities:
Illinois Watershed Group Overviews
The Committee provides information
about Illinois watershed groups to others interested in watershed
management. These statewide watershed groups work within their local
watersheds to improve water quality through public education
implementation projects, monitoring and assessment, and advocacy.
The information provided for each watershed group includes:
- Water quality issues
- Implementation measures and achievements
- Contact information
- Other general information
For further information or to add your watershed group to the list,

IWEA Watershed Management Symposium
The Committee plans and hosts an annual Watershed Management Symposium,
currently held in conjunction with IWEA's Annual Conference. Illinois
has several organized watershed groups with similar goals and similar
challenges, yet with some unique situations and approaches. The
Watershed Management Symposium has been developed as an annual venue for
these groups to convene and highlight efforts, successes and challenges,
share unique experiences, transfer information, and take knowledge back
to the watersheds.
The Symposium is the forum for hearing the most up to date
information on Illinois watershed management from regulating government
agencies and well-developed Illinois watershed organizations. Symposium
topics include current water quality challenges and implementation
projects, funding, regulation updates, and new available resources.
Over 75 people attended the March 23, 2011 Watershed symposium. You
